John L. Barnes is in private practice in Fort Worth, Texas. Prior to
moving his practice to his home town of Fort Worth, he was a professor
at South Texas College of Law from 1995 to 2002, where he taught legal
research, legal writing, appellate advocacy, and maritime law. John
has spoken on practical writing for the State Bar of Texas at its
Practical Lawyering programs. He also served as an adjunct professor
of legal writing at the University of Houston Law Center. John received
his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston Law Center,
his Master of Science with a focus in linguistics from Oklahoma State
University, and his Bachelor of Arts with a focus in English and German
from the University of North Texas. John is an avid sailor and gardener.
His favorite out-of-town trip is heading to the Hill Country with
his fly rod.
